Your newborn baby will spend a lot of time sleeping. It is vital therefore as a parent you find a safe and secure crib for your baby. How do you do this? There are several safety features a parent should look for when shopping for a crib for their baby. These include:
Making sure the crib uses a tight fitting mattress with little space between the railing and mattress.
Making sure the mattress is firm and not too soft.
Ensuring that no loose or missing parts or slats accompany the crib.
Ensuring that the space in between each slat is less than 2 3/8 inches, or about the width of an average 8 ounce drinking glass.
Checking to see that posts are not taller than 1/16 inches high.
Making sure that the headboard and footboard do not include spaces or cut outs that may trap or suffocate your baby.
If you aren’t certain whether a
crib is safe or not, don’t use it. You don’t want to risk your baby for the sake of saving a few dollars. Make sure the crib you are suing is approved and up to date. Your baby’s health and well being depends on it!
