Baby crib sheets and safety
Before you start shopping for nursery crib sets, you'll want to verify your crib's safety. If it's painted, you need to be sure the paint is not lead-based. If there's decorative woodwork, cutwork or posts in the head or footboard, you should not use it for your baby. Crib sheets, blankets, or even your baby's pajamas might get caught. If there are rails, you must be positive that your baby's head, arms or legs cannot fit through the spaces in between. This was a common problem with older cribs, so be careful with this one.
Nursery crib sets and mattresses
Be sure your baby crib sheets, bedding and mattress are a good fit for the crib. The mattress should be flush with the crib's sides with no space between. If you can easily fit two fingers between the edge and crib wall, you ought to get a better-fitting mattress. Another good thing to remember is to check the mattress's support height often. Newborns often necessitate it being set up high because it's easier to reach in for your baby or to change your nursery crib sets. As soon as he or she can roll over, the height should be lowered. It's important to stay aware and pay attention and adjust the mattress height accordingly as your baby grows. Especially be careful when your baby can pull his or herself up to a standing position. At this point, the mattress should be lowered as far as possible, preferably to the lowest setting. When it's set this low, the top of the crib rail should reach no less than 3/4 of your child's total standing height.
