Don't feel that you shouldn't decorate your nursery with fun accessories like pillows and toys just because they can't go in the crib. There are tons of options for these items when you are not in the room. Rest decorative pillows on the rocking chair or window seal. Fluffy comforters can hang from the wall as decor. Invest in a coordinating toy bag for all of those soft toys until baby is ready to play.
